Get ready for a thrilling Premier League comeback! Tammy Abraham, the former Chelsea FC star, is back in the top flight with a bang.
Abraham, now 28, began his Premier League journey under Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge. He seized his chance when Chelsea faced a two-window transfer ban in 2019, establishing himself as a key player.
But here's where it gets interesting: Abraham's loan spell at Aston Villa, then in the Championship, was a game-changer. He scored an impressive 26 goals in 40 appearances, helping the Midlands club earn promotion back to the Premier League.
After leaving Chelsea in 2021 to join Serie A's Roma, Abraham is now set for a homecoming to Villa Park.
The Briton's journey this season started with a loan move to Besiktas, which included a conditional obligation to buy, triggered in January. However, he won't be staying with the Istanbul club for the full season.
And this is the part most people miss: Fabrizio Romano reports that a player-plus-cash deal has been agreed, with Aston Villa set to acquire Abraham's services. In exchange, Villa will send Yasin Ozcan, a 19-year-old who signed from Kasimpasa in the summer, and €21 million plus add-ons to Besiktas.
Villa's delegates traveled to Istanbul to seal the deal, reportedly offering Abraham a long-term contract. Unai Emery, a long-time admirer of the player, is said to be instrumental in this move.
Abraham's return provides much-needed competition for Ollie Watkins at Villa, filling the gap left by Donyell Malen, who joined Roma earlier this month.
But the story doesn't end there. Villa is also eyeing midfield reinforcements due to injuries to Boubacar Kamara and John McGinn. Interestingly, another ex-Chelsea star, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, is reportedly on their shortlist.
Abraham's departure from Besiktas is a significant loss for the club - he was their top scorer this campaign.
If all goes well, Abraham could face his former club, Chelsea, when they visit Villa Park on March 4.
So, what do you think about this transfer? Is it a smart move for Aston Villa, or are there potential pitfalls? Feel free to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
